We must never forget those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in defending the innocent and fighting for freedom

On Tuesday, August 19th, 2014 in honour of the 70th anniversary of the Battle for Putot-en-Auge my wife and I attended at the memorial site in the churchyard. My uncle L/Cpl. Bertie McCombe is memorialized near S/Sgt. Wise. We walked Hill 13 where their lives were sacrificed and came to a better understanding of the diificulties the battalion faced that day. The sacrifice made by S/Sgt. Wise along with my uncle have not been forgotten. We live in peace today because of their bravery. William please know that your Father has fallen but he has not been forgotten. With gratefulness and respect, Susanne and Michael Gibson
