EDWARD JAMES CADWALLADER was born in Detton, Shropshire and lived in Detton Hall with his 2 brothers and 10 sisters, later he moved to Welland, Worcestershire. He served in Normandy with 18 Platoon, D Company, 1 Battalion, Worcestershire Regiment. He was killed by an enemy sniper, on Tuesday 27th June 1944, while taking information on a motorcycle to his commanders.

 

After the war, his nephew, while on National Service, met the sergeant who found and buried Private EDWARD JAMES CADWALLADER in a temporary grave. EDWARD JAMES CADWALLADER's name is also on the war memorial in Welland, Worcestershire.
